The Registered Nurse is responsible to meet and exceed the expectations of! the patient through, but not limited to, excellence in clinical care and customer service, the nursing process, coordinating patient care delivery, delegating and supervising other members of the health care team and participation in the professional practice model. Requires knowledge of the behaviors, developmental stages, physical and emotional needs, life cycle changes, culture, and comfort and care appropriate to the population served. Populations served by the department are identified in the department's scope of service. QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Licensure is considered minimal competence for all RN positions unless an event of error occurs. Must have the ability to frequently work in a standing position and do frequent walking. Must have the ability to lift and transfer patients up to 6 inches from stooped position then pushing or pulling the weight up to 3 feet. Must have the ability to lift and transfer patients from a stooped to an upright po! sition to accomplish bed to chair and chair to bed transfers, ! minimally 50 pounds singly and estimated 100-350 pounds with assistance from multiple sources. Must have the ability to physically apply up to 10 pounds of pressure to bleeding sites, or in performing CPR. Must have the ability to analytically evaluate problem situations in depth and come to independent, appropriate conclusions. Must have the ability to use independent judgment and discretion. Must have the ability to perform mathematical calculations in medication preparation and administration. Must have the ability to manage several assignments simultaneously and appropriately prioritize and delegate based on caseload and patient needs. Must have the ability and capacity to document in clear and concise fashion with appropriate grammar and word usage. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and/or significant others, physicians, co-workers, supervisors and other hospital personnel on a one-to-one basis using appropriate grammar, vocabular! y and word usage. Must have the ability to respond and react immediately with unimpeded auditory perception of verbal/vocal instructions and auditory auscultation. Must have the ability to respond and react to visual observation. Must be or have the ability to achieve outcomes with respect to the coordinating of patient care activities with others; patient teaching/discharge planning needs; supervising, directing and evaluating patient care given by nursing associates as assigned. Must have the ability to quickly and accurately manipulate a keyboard. Must have the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations. Must have the ability to work in a team environment. Must have the ability to delegate & accept delegation. Must have the ability to push and pull patients and associated equipment when transporting Must have the ability to perform the basic patient lifting through in-service for proper technique when transporting. Mu! st have the ability to walk at a very fast pace while transporting pati! ents from one area to another in critical situations. Must have the ability to exhibit manual dexterity for performing specimen collection when performing phlebotomy duties. Must have the ability to exhibit manual and finger dexterity, handle small tubes and labels when performing phlebotomy duties.
Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Indiana; or current licensure as a registered nurse in another state with evidence of application for Indiana licensure. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider CPR preferred or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Certification at point of hire or must obtain AHA Health Care Provider CPR within 1st week of orientation prior to patient care required.
Requires Basic Life Support certification.
Requires ability to successfully complete ACLS, CRRT and IABP (CIC only) within 1 year.
Requires ability to successfully complete cardiac dynamics, hemodynamic monitoring and ICP monitoring (ICU! only) by end of orientation.
Requires that the RN has graduated from a nursing program accredited through the NLN or CCNE.Effective with new hires post 02.13.11, requires that the RN has graduated from a nursing program accredited through the NLN or CCNE
