Responsible for coordination of care for trauma patients across the continuum of care and serves as a clinical resource. Responsible for the operations, personnel and financial aspects of the trauma program. Coordinates pediatric trauma professional development opportunities for system and regional outreach including pre-hospital professionals and regional referral centers. Coordinates and monitors performance improvement indicators with overall responsibility for quality outcomes management. Assists with strategic planning and program development in collaboration with administration and the Trauma Medical Director. Serves as liaison to hospital administration and reports to hospital’s Chief Operating Officer. Represents trauma program at a state and national level. This position is responsible for managing the Pediatric Trauma service line to achieve desired outcomes by assuring the development and implementation of policies and procedures that meet the needs of the patients, families, physicians, and staff. The incumbent is responsible for establishing standards and administrating the program in a manner, which assures optimal quality. This position is responsible for managing the personnel and financial resources for optimal utilization and providing leadership, strategic planning, marketing and overall operational control to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. The incumbent will develop and manage local community-driven injury prevention programs and develop community coalition relationships. This position will develop and facilitate research studies with the healthcare staff of the trauma center and participate in multi-site trauma related research. The incumbent will act as a communication liaison for the national Injury Free Coalition for Kids office and the national office for Emergency Medical Services for Children. Oversees injury data collection, and leads the department in data management of patient outcomes. The incumbent will become intimately involved in the development of the state-wide trauma system including performance improvement and patient safety initiatives and the expansion of the state-wide trauma designation process.

Job Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or health related field; Master's degree preferred. Requires current state of Indiana licensure as Registered Nurse. Basic Life Support certification required. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies. Requires progressive experience in clinical management of pediatric trauma programs. Requires knowledge of state and national regulatory agency guidelines. Requires ability to lead quality improvement and outcomes management initiatives. Requires ability to plan and manage the utilization of resources at the facility and state level. Requires ability to facilitate and lead work groups. Requires ability to apply the IU Health personnel policies and procedures. Requires knowledge of state and federal laws relative to assigned area. Requires effective written and verbal communication skills. Requires ability to communicate and problem-solve sensitive issues with all levels of employees/management. Requires strong customer service skills. Requires ability to promote teamwork and build effective relationships. Requires ability to take initiative and meet objectives. Requires a high level of interpersonal; problem-solving; and analytical skills.
