Licensure/Certification Required: Licensed as an RN in the State of Indiana Essential Functions: Assesses each patient initially utilizing a triage system to determine priority of nursing diagnosis and plan of care. Assess systemically and continuously the condition of the patient(s), identifying needs and problems requiring nursing intervention. Demonstrates an ability to plan for providing individualized, professional Emergency Room nursing care using an organized multi-disciplinary approach. Demonstrates expertise in providing the care of patients/patient population with complex problems/needs using a multi-disciplinary approach. Complies with physician orders and intervenes when further physician I ntervention is required. Administers prescribed medications, IV's, and treatments in accordance with physician orders and hospital policies and procedures. Evaluates the assessment utilizing the nursing process, monitoring life support and automated equipment, performing routine and complex treatments, and giving emergency resuscitation. Documents initial assessment, ongoing follow-up, evaluates progress or lack of progress in health status of the patient in relation to established standards of care. Initiates and/or collaborates to individualized patient/family teaching in response to patient problems/needs. Collaborates and contributes to the plan of discharge utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach. Performs phlebotomy per Howard Regional Health System Policies and procedures. Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other disciplines impacting the delivery of patient care. Determines interventions utilized in critical and emergency situations and directs actions of others in such situations. Directs self and others in problem-solving activities. Is goal directed in identification and achievement or lack of progress in health status of the patient in relation to established standards of care. Assists with orientation of new associates and contributes to the educational experience of students assigned to the Emergency Department. Participates in unit staff meetings.D emonstrates a safe operating knowledge of equipment and supplies necessary to perform assigned duties and tasks. Utilizes appropriate resources in problem solving activities. M aintains current CPR certification. Maintains ACLS certification. Maintains PALS certification. Attends a Trauma Nurse Core Course Program. Maintains the privacy and security of protected health information (PHI), the confidentiality of all information, and conducts all aspects of patient care charting, billing, and all operations within the system in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with Federal, State, and HRHS rules and regulations.
