VA Northern Indiana Health Care System (VANIHCS) was formed in 1995 by the integration of the VA Medical Centers in Fort Wayne, Indiana and Marion, Indiana. The mission of VANIHCS is to provide coordinated, compassionate and comprehensive quality primary care, mental health services and ex! tended care to Veterans in a timely, accessible and cost effec! tive manner. The Fort Wayne campus offers primary and secondary medical and surgical services. The Marion campus offers a full range of psychiatry services, nursing home care and extended care services. Primary care clinics are available at both campuses and at Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located in South Bend, Goshen, Peru and Muncie, Indiana.

English Language Proficiency DUTIES:
As the Nurse Office of the Day (NOD) this individual manages staffing during her/! his assigned shift.
The NOD is responsible for making staffing adjustments based upon accurate assessments of patient acuity and assigning staff as indicated by their skill level.
The NOD assesses patients in the admission area and delegates care appropriately.
The NOD evaluates patient care continuously and recognizes and reports deficit outcomes.
The NOD monitors staff performance and confronts deficit behaviors.
The NOD communicates positive and/or negative performance of Nursing staff members to front-line supervisors.
The NOD participates and/or initiates continuing education for staff on their assigned shift.
The NOD continually assesses and takes action to maintain a safe environment for Veterans and staff.
The NOD maintains current ACLS certification.
The NOD's duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcome! s; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of! physical and/or behavior problems.
The NOD is accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade.
VA Northern Indiana Health Care System is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.

Tour of Duty/Shift: Multiple Schedules with rotating shifts during weekends, holidays, evenings and nights to provide 24/7 onsite coverage. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. Citizenship: Citizen of the United States.
2. Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of t! he following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

3. Licensure and Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
4. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
- Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or! Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
- Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
- Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
- Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with! BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursi! ng or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
Prior nursing supervisory experience is preferred.

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration, and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Dev! elopment: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy, moderate and light lifting and carrying from under fifteen (15) pounds up to forty-five (45)pounds and over; straight pulling, pushing, pulling hand over hand and reaching above shoulders for at least one to four (1-4) hours;use of fingers; both hands and legs required or prosthesis; walking and standing for at least (6) six hours; kneeling and repeated bending for at lease two to four (2 -4) hours; repetitive motions for two to five (2-5) hours; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; hearing (aid permitted) and emotional and mental stability.
