ROLE OVERVIEW: In cooperation with the Manager of the Centralized Tra! nsfusion Center and the Supervisor, functions as a team member committed to the common goal of providing quality service in the area of transfusion medicine in accordance with the regulations established by AABB, CLIA, SBOH, CAP, and JCAHO.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: A high school diploma or GED is required. Prior Health Care experience is preferred.
SKILLS REQUIRED: Must be self-directed, able to effectively prioritize duties. Must have the ability to make independent decisions. Attention to detail is required. A high level of interaction with nursing/care givers is required which necessitates diplomacy and effective communication skills. Must possess or develop a working knowledge of general computer software (Word, Excel, Sunquest).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following are the essential responsibilities of this role. Individuals in this role may not perform all of these duties or may perform additional related duties not ! listed here.
1. Specimen and order receipt, Receive s! pecimens and orders from HIS. Verify acceptable specimen labeling. Obtain and document blood bank patient history. Process orders in the computer, label accurately, and forward specimens to testing area.
2. Computer functions, Perform assigned computer tasks using the following systems: LIS, HIS, Word, Excel. Perform computer downtime procedures. 3. Instrumentation, Prepare, label, and place specimens on instruments. Operate instrumentation.
4. Blood Component Inventory Management, Receive, transfer, and ship out blood components. Perform computer functions necessary for blood inventory management. Store appropriately all blood components. Manage blood component inventory to minimize wastage.
5. Blood Component Processing, Retype red cell components. Perform blood component modifications to prepare products for transfusion. Issue blood components for transfusion.
6.Competency testing, Complete initial training, 6 month, and annual compete! ncy testing.
7. Complies with all OSHA requirements.
