Wellness Center Coordinator
Position Status: Full Time, Exemp
Summary of Responsibilities
The Wellness Center Coordinator is responsible for strategy, development , operations and evaluation of fitness and other wellness activities, maintaining the fitness rooms, arts & crafts rooms, natatorium and equipment, assuring safety and cleanliness of all fitness facilities, and promoting active resident and employee participation in appropriate exercise and multi-dimensional activities programs.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
Essential Job Duties:
1. Organize and implement wellness programming that fosters growth in one or more dimension of wellness.
2. Manages wellness center staff and creates employee work schedules
3. Work collaboratively with the Life Enrichment department to implement educational and arts programming for residents.
4. Collaborates with other departments to facilitate additional programming and services related to health and wellness.
5. Organize and implement progressive and safe exercise programs for individuals and groups; plan physical acti vity events; instructs most individual and group exercise programs; and monitors results.
6. Maintain resident files and assessments related to the fitness program and keep an active/current resident roster.
7. Maintain confidentiality and appropriate safeguards on participant health records.
8. Oversee operations of fitness, pool and arts & crafts areas, maintains the fitness area including equipment service contracts, routine cleaning and equipment maintenance, daily records for environmental conditions and risk management of pools and exercise areas.
9. Perform initial assessments and orientation for residents and employees to actively participate in fitness programs and activities, maintains necessary attendance/participation and progress reports.
10. Follow standards for participant and facility safety, fitness assessment and exercise prescription.
11. Order necessary supplies and work with laundry staff to ensure appropriate par levels for linens for the fitness and pool areas.
12. Prepare and maintain required reports, records, studies and surveys.
13. Work with other health or wellness-related staff at the community to provide a consistent message of health and wellness and to assist with resident transitions from one aspect of health services to another.
14. Follow established budget.
15. Provide health education programming to promote opportunities for enhanced personal wellness.
Other Duties:
1. Encourage residents to take an active part in various fitness and recreational programs.
2. Attend in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
3. Maintain current Adult CPR (with practical skills component), AED, and First Aid certification.
4. Accept responsibility for and maintains overall confidentiality.
5. Maintain current licensure/certifi cation/health screening as required for the position.
6. Comply with expectations of mandatory/regulatory requirements.
7. Participate in professional growth and development activities and various continuing educations programs as needed.
Resident and customer satisfaction:
- Know and understand Residentsâ expectations and meet those expectations within Village policy.
- Communicate cooperatively with Residents to ensure their needs are being met.
- Inform the Independent Living Wellness Nurse of any changing conditions that affect the Residentâs ability to function independently.

Qualifications

- Is able to prioritize and organize work schedule and tasks.
- Bachelorâs degree or higher in exercise science/exercise physiology OR related field
- Current ACSM Certification or current NCCA-accredited, health/fitness-related certifications (e.g., ACE, NCSF, NSCA)
- Certification in senior fitness/strength trainin g (Can acquire through employment)
- Certified in CPR, AED, First Aid
Resident Rights/Confidentiality
- Understands, protects and promotes rights of all residents in accordance with Resident Rights regulations and facility abuse and neglect protocols.
- Understands, protects and promotes the confidentiality of resident care information in accordance with HIPAA Privacy Rule regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move, stand, bend, and lift throughout the workday.
- Must be able to clearly communicate in the English language orally and in written form without assistance.
- Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people.
- May be required to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, or materials up tofifty (50) pounds frequently.
- Must be able to push residents weighing up to 350 lbs. in Geri chairs and/or wheelchairs
Working Conditions
- Works throughout the facility.
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is involved with residents, employees, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, employees and visitors.
- Is subject to falls, odors, etc., throughout the work day, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, etc.
- May be required to work in cramped spaces.
- May be exposed to heat/cold temperatures.
- May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
