JOB DUTIES: The Clinical Documentation Improvement Registered Nurse facilitates modifications to clinical documentation through concurrent review of medical record documentation and interaction with physicians and other members of the health team to support that appropriate clinical severity is captured for the level of service rendered to all inpatients

EXPERIENCE: Registered Nurse with ten years inpatient clinical experience; Prefer Bachelor of Science in Nursing, OR three to five years inpatient clinical experience with Certified Cardiac Device Specialist or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner certification, OR advanced clinical expertise and extensive knowledge of complex disease processes with a broad clinical experience in an acute inpatient setting

EDUCATION: Prefer Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing; must be graduate of National League for Nursing or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accred! ited nursing program; Certified Clinical Documentation Special! ist or Coding experience preferred

LICENSE: Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency required

SKILLS: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Proficiency in organization and planning; Proficiency in computer usage including database and spreadsheet analysis, presentation programs, word processing and Internet searching; Understanding of organizational policies and procedures; Working knowledge of quality improvement theory and practice; Ability and willingness to seek out and accept change; Demonstrates adaptability and self-motivation by staying abreast of CMS rules, and regulations and incorporating those changes into daily practice; Team building skills with the ability to function independently and interdependently as a member of a network team; Demonstrates the ability to be flexible in work schedules and coverage at any site; Knowledge of federal, state and private payer regulations
